"T.H.O.T?" (2021) - Written by: Jayson Johnson, Sara Anders / Directed by Jayson Johnson
Starring: Phoenyx Rose, Adrian Marcel, Arion Johnson
Director's Statement: "T.H.O.T?" was a project that came together during the pandemic, a time when we were all looking for ways to stay creative and connected. The idea sparked during a conversation with friends about what our next project could be. My barber friend, Kareem, suggested we film at his friend’s barbershop and explore the kind of gossip that often takes place there. This led to a story about a group of men getting haircuts, boasting about their sexual conquests, and inadvertently damaging the reputations of the women involved. We decided to take the word "THOT," which carries a negative connotation, and flip it on its head by crafting a narrative that ultimately speaks to love and empowerment. This film became a significant milestone, as it was the first time I worked with stars like Adrian Marcel and Don P. The project’s success opened doors for us, leading to interviews with notable Bay Area outlets like KMEL and prominent newspapers. "T.H.O.T?" was more than just a story—it was an opportunity to challenge perceptions and tell a meaningful tale in a time when connection was needed most.
