"LIFELINE" (2018) - Written by: Jayson Johnson, Fernando Pereira
Starring: Fernando Pereira, Joanna Kay, Mick Hodder
Director's Statement: "Lifeline" was a project that carried a deep sense of responsibility for me. After the success of "Redress," I was approached by a local actor with a profound commitment to raising awareness about the struggles veterans face, particularly with depression and suicide. The statistic that 22 veterans commit suicide daily was staggering, and it underscored the importance of getting this project right.
Our goal with "Lifeline" was to depict the harsh realities veterans often endure after serving our country—realities that are too frequently overlooked. We filmed much of the movie in a cramped trailer, a choice that, in hindsight, perfectly mirrored the confinement and isolation many veterans feel after their service. This setting helped to convey the claustrophobic pressure they face, a poignant metaphor for their internal battles.
While this film may not have achieved the commercial success of some of my other projects, I'm grateful for the chance to bring such a critical story to life. We were able to pitch "Lifeline" to several advocacy groups dedicated to helping veterans, and I hope this film serves as a small step towards greater awareness and change for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
